Wrenly goes head first off the slide, laughing all the way.  You can call her name 50 times; she hears you, she's just not listening to you.  She can figure out the child safety features if they're in between her and dangerous fun things.  She quacks all.the.time.  She loves to act like a monkey and yell, loudly with dad. Kay-Kay is her home-girl.

I am all in for this dresser at $27.50.  [Pause for dramatic effect].



Yes, that's how much I paid for it at auction (well, I bought a set for $55, so this piece is half the set).

I already had all of the supplies.  I challenged myself to find a style for it that only involved paint and supplies I already had.  I think it turned out beautiful; and in fact, I'm keeping it.

Supplies:
1. Canvas from Home Depot to avoid spills on the new concrete driveway
2. Brushes (1.5 inch, a wax brush, and a couple of foam brushes)
3. Deglosser and rubber gloves
4. Sanding blocks (medium and fine grit)
5. Sandpaper (fine)
6. Milk paint (this time I used Old Fashioned Milk Paint, and General Finishes Milk Paint )
7. Bonding Agent
8. Furniture Wax and a rag

Before:

Someone had (in my opinion) defiled this dresser with about 6 coats of clear varnish.  It was on all the pieces of furniture I got that day, and could, in part, account for the deals I got.  What's worse, no one even took the hardware off before applying said varnish.  It was dried on dripping off the handles. 




I applied the deglosser and let it sit for a night. 
I think the brand I used may have changed their labeling.  Use sexy gloves.



After:

The desk/vanity that was the other half of the set will be coming soon! 
And then I will have to post about the spare bedroom redo when I get them in there.
GO PAINT SOMETHING and HAVE FUN!

Because Fridays remind us of fun ahead, I thought I would try writing about a few things that are fun (keeping me from going completely insane) in my life every some Fridays.



1. Tart eye makeup - I am no make-up artist (I don't even get it on some days), but the Tartlette Palette color names are awesome, and the shadow is working out pretty well too!

2. Savor - I just started this 365 day devotional, but I am already loving it.  My mind gets chaotic, and this calms it, and reminds me to slow down and pay attention to the amazing-ness all around me.

3. The Astronaut Wives Club (on Audible) - The plan I have with Audible allows me one book a month for a fixed monthly subscription (which is way lower than the normal cost of an audiobook).  It makes me be very calculated in what I listen to for my commute to work.  On weekends, I could listen to it during the twins' naps on headphones, but I usually save it for the drive time.  This book is true, and especially entertaining to me as an aviation management major, who attended classes at Ellington Airfield with NASA employees and contractors as professors.  #funfact

4. Instagram stalk worthy: @thrifylittles - This awesome mama lets you know what's on major sale and where.  I find some really cool things I had no idea existed, and discounted!  The IG feed is perfect to know when I'm interested in something to go read the full blog post.

5. Blog spotlight:  didyoueverthinkthat.blogspot.com - I am so spastic in my blog reading that I often miss several posts on blogs I love, and then binge read.  Emily and Jenn's is one I love to go catch up on.  Emily's twin girls' are about the same age as mine, and she has impeccable style.  And both of these gals share my love of Texas (home).

What's been keeping you going, adding some fun, inspiring your life lately?

The only power tool I used for this simple laundry room shelf was a cordless drill. I could have used the sander and the table saw, but I didn't.



 The reason is probably buried in my lovers' quarrel with my new router table. I was hoping the next post would be about a wine rack I designed... but the router table and I are still in that first year of marriage stage (ugh). So, I had an itch to get something done.

 And the last project I painted with Miss Mustard Seed's "Curio" milk paint color BROKE the first time I sat on it.
 

Ace Hardware was kind enough to accept the broken chair and replace it. That doesn't ease my frustration, or my desire to use "Curio" for good versus disappointment.

For the already mentioned wine rack plan, I had purchased some 1x12 common boards at Home Depot, and they are kind enough to cut your boards for you when you bring your measurements. Based on the lengths of the common boards they sell, I was going to have some left over board.  That's where this shelf comes in.  I did have to cut some of the length of the left over piece down to fit in the laundry room.  I used a hand saw for that little cut.

I used a sanding block to sand the ends and gave all the edges and both sides a quick sand.  Then, mixed my MMS paint with water.  I like to mix the powder paint in a small canning glass jar.  Since I have little children, I don't always get to finish a project, so I can put the lid on the paint and store it in the fridge even 'til the next day.  I mixed the paint extremely thin because I wanted it more of a stain than paint.
